Scottish Commonwealth and Olympic swimmer Ross Murdoch has been announced as an ambassador for the Glasgow 2018 European Championships.
It will be the biggest sporting event hosted by the city since the success of the 2014 Commonwealth Games, where Ross picked up a gold medal in the 200m breaststroke, breaking British and Commonwealth records, as well as a bronze in the 100m breaststroke.
He also found success at the last European Championships in 2016, winning 200m gold, 100m silver and 50m bronze medals in the breaststroke events.
Glasgow is co-hosting the 2018 European Championships along with Berlin. While the German capital is hosting athletics events, Glasgow will stage aquatics, rowing, cycling, gymnastics and golf. The events will take place across 12 venues with more than 3,000 competitors from 52 nations expected to participate across 11 days.
We caught up with Ross to chat about his preparations for the forthcoming 2017 World Aquatic Championships in Budapest. He told us:
‘Preparation for the World Championships is going great at the minute. I’ve been training really well and I’ve had my head in a much better place than where it was after Rio. I’m just back from Thailand and Japan where I was out training and racing and I raced an in-season best, so that’s looking really good towards the summer. I’m really excited to continue the preparation.’
In 2016, Arnold Clark began our support of Ross, providing him with a BMW 1 Series.
We’d like to wish him good luck for the World Championships and with his role as European Championships Ambassador.
