Darren Smith, sandwich van driver from Bridge of Don, was delighted to discover that he had won a brand-new Renault Clio after taking part in this year’s Royal Bank of Scotland Kiltwalk in Aberdeen.
The 45-year-old braced the Mighty Stride to raise money for CLAN, a charity that helped him and his dad when his mum was diagnosed with cancer a number of years ago.
When he heard the news from Kiltwalk Chief Executive Paul Cooney, Darren was dumbfounded:
‘It’s unbelievable, I thought it had to be a wind-up. Out of all of the thousands of people that walked the Aberdeen Kiltwalk, my name was chosen at random to be the winner! I’ve won the occasional bottle of wine in a raffle but never anything as good as a brand-new car. I’m still in a state of shock to be honest.’
There are still two Kiltwalks to go this year, which means there are two more chances to win in our new car giveaway.
The upcoming Kiltwalks will be taking place in:
- Dundee – 20th August
- Edinburgh – 17th September
Paul Cooney, Chief Executive of the Kiltwalk, said:
‘Arnold Clark really has pulled out all the stops this year by so generously donating four brand-new Renault Clios across the four Kiltwalks. It was really lovely being able to surprise Darren with the great news. He’s a top fundraiser and deserves this fantastic prize.
‘There are still two more chances to win a brand-new car so sign up to walk the Kiltwalk and raise money for a charity close to your heart. Not only will you be part of something truly special, but you’ll also be in with the chance of winning a new set of wheels!’
David Munton, Arnold Clark Renault Franchise Manager, said:
‘We are thrilled to give away the second of the Kiltwalk prize cars, this time to a well deserving Kiltwalker who took part in the Aberdeen event. The Renault Clio is a fantastic car and I wish Darren many happy years of motoring.’
The Hunter Foundation and Sir Tom Hunter have also made a generous pledge this year, by promising that 140% of all fundraising at each Kiltwalk will go to charity. That means that for every £100 raised, your chosen charity will receive £140.
The Kiltwalk 2017 is open to all charities in Scotland with over 700 charitable organisations set to benefit this year.
