A charity worker got the surprise of a lifetime when she was told she had won a new car, after taking part in the Royal Bank of Scotland Kiltwalk in Edinburgh.

Wishaw’s Nicole Forsyth is the fourth and final Kiltwalker this year to win a shiny new Renault Clio.

The 30-year-old made her Kiltwalk debut in Edinburgh this month, completing the 12-mile Big Stroll for ENABLE Scotland, the charity she works for, alongside supporters, members and colleagues.

The Team Facilitator was thrilled to receive the shock news from the Kiltwalk team. She said:

'They pretended it was an ordinary meeting so I couldn’t believe it when I was told I’d won a car. I’ll definitely be driving my new car to work from now on!

'I helped hand out balloons, medals and flags at the Glasgow Kiltwalk earlier this year as there were lots of people from ENABLE Scotland taking part. The event was amazing so I signed up for the Big Stroll in Edinburgh straight away!

'We know the huge impact fundraising can have on people’s lives and I’ll definitely take part again next year!'

Eddie Hawthorne, Arnold Clark Chief Executive and Group Managing Director, said:

'We are really proud to be handing over another well-deserved prize. Nicole has shown exceptional determination by taking on her first ever Kiltwalk and raising money for ENABLE Scotland. I would like to wish Nicole many years of happy motoring with her new Renault Clio, I know she will love driving it.'

Paul Cooney, Chief Executive of the Kiltwalk, added:

'We’re extremely grateful to our friends at Arnold Clark for so generously donating four brand new cars in 2017 – and for promising to do the same again next year. It was another memorable Kiltwalk moment when we delivered the surprise news to Nicole. It’s a fitting reward after all her walking and fundraising efforts.

'With a chance to win one of four new cars once again next year, and the fact The Hunter Foundation has again promised to boost each walkers’ fundraising total by 40%, the Kiltwalk is fast becoming Scotland’s foremost fundraising platform.'

The 2018 Kiltwalk events will take place on:

  • Sunday, 29 April in Glasgow
  • Sunday, 3 June in Aberdeen
  • Sunday, 19 August from St. Andrews to Dundee
  • Sunday, 16 September in Edinburgh

For every penny raised by a Kiltwalker in 2017, Sir Tom Hunter and The Hunter Foundation pledged 140% to their chosen charity. This unique fundraising boost will continue next year.

The unstoppable army of Kiltwalkers raised a staggering £1,642,000 before the 40% top-up was applied in 2017 for their chosen charities, bringing the total contribution to £2.3 million – with money still coming in. Funds raised by those who choose to walk for the Kiltwalk itself are distributed through the STV Children’s Appeal.
