Audiobooks
Struggling to find the time to make it through the bestsellers? Why not pop an audiobook on during your next journey? Available through Amazon, iTunes and Audible, you’ll be making it through those titles you’ve been trying to read for ages in no time at all. What’s more, many sites offer free trials so you can see if it works for you before you commit to yet another Direct Debit subscription. It’s also been found that audiobooks make it a bit easier to engage with a challenging text and that you tend to get through longer novels slightly quicker by listening rather than traditional reading. Maybe War and Peace won’t seem quite so daunting when you can’t count the pages.
Podcasts
Podcasts are brilliant for expanding your horizons and learning about all sorts of weird and wonderful things that go on in the world. There really is something for everyone out there. Podcast lovers have also been found to be more imaginative and better listeners than non-listeners. They also give you the opportunity learn about new perspectives and topics you wouldn’t ordinarily have access to. Not sure where to start? We’ve got you covered.
A new album or playlist
It’s easy to pop on your favourite playlist and jam out at the traffic lights, singing every single word with confident enthusiasm. But why not step out of your comfort zone and stick on an album you’ve been meaning to listen to or that your friend has recommended to you countless times. There’s something nice about enjoying an album uninterrupted in the order the artist intended. Who knows, it might just give you a renewed appreciation for music! Alternatively, if commitment to a single artist isn’t your thing, why not pop on your Discover Weekly playlist on Spotify? This is a carefully curated playlist based on everything you listen to so you’re bound to find at least a few decent tracks to liven up your journey.
Learn a language
Don’t know the difference between your tu and vous? Why not invest some time in learning a new language? Pimsleur offers you 30 minutes a day of handsfree learning. It’s based on a scientific method of recall and has been found to accelerate learning by building strong foundations first and not overwhelming the user with tons of vocabulary. If you’d prefer something a little shorter, Radio Lingua offer Coffee Break Languages in French, Spanish, German, Italian and Chinese.
