The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle) works by seamlessly transitioning between an electric motor and petrol engine. As a result, the new Outlander PHEV offers a smooth, quiet and comfortable ride along with exceptional fuel economy that cars running solely on petrol or diesel can’t compete with.

Some car buyers may be turned off by SUVs due to their size and impact on the environment, however the Outlander PHEV allows you to drive up to 33 miles on electric power and scores top marks in the new, more comprehensive fuel efficiency tests (WLTP). This makes it one of the most environmentally friendly options for a 4WD SUV. Its superb green credentials even qualify it for the £2,500 government plug-in car grant!

What is the government plug-in car grant?

UK car buyers can receive some support from the government when buying a new electric car or van, provided it meets certain criteria.

The grant covers:

  • 35% of the cost of a car, up to a maximum of £2,500 depending on the emissions category the car comes under.
  • 20% of the cost of a van, up to a maximum of £8,000.
  • 20% of the cost of a taxi, up to a maximum of £7,500.

More about electric car grants, insurance and tax.

It is simple, fast and easy to charge at home or at thousands of public charging points, with the battery charging to 80% capacity in just 25 minutes. And it doesn’t just charge while static – the Outlander PHEV can reclaim energy from itself using advanced new battery technology to take you even further.

The Outlander PHEV also has the capability to switch between three driving modes as your driving style changes.

Available driving modes:

  • EV power mode drives on pure electric power which allows for a near-silent ride with no exhaust emissions.
  • Series hybrid mode uses the petrol engine to charge the battery while the battery powers the wheels.
  • Parallel hybrid mode allows the petrol engine to take over for a high-speed motoring experience and to tackle steep hills.
  • Sport Mode which, with the help of a 2.4 Atkinson Cycle engine, provides increased torque and more responsive acceleration.

A spacious interior makes this car versatile for any type of trip. With a flexible seat layout, the Outlander PHEV can be easily switched to prioritise driving around friends or family or for holding all the luggage on a long trip. The comfort and practicality of this model is balanced with a distinct premium finish, creating a space that you want to be in.

The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is available at Arnold Clark from £36,755.
