Fans of the hit US TV show ‘The Walking Dead’ can now, courtesy of Hyundai, build their own post-apocalyptic survival vehicle. As the zombie infection spreads, the game allows a player to kit out their chosen vehicle with deadly weapons and features, in order to protect them from the undead.
Hyundai, whose Tucson model appeared in the show, have created the game, aptly named ‘The Walking Dead Chop Shop.’. The game, which comes as an iPhone app or a desktop computer game, allows users to configure a zombie survival car. They can pick from a range of Hyundai vehicles, including the Veloster, with its 201-horsepower engine, the Elantra and the Santa Fe.
Each vehicle presents its own benefit to human survival against the zombie population, with the Santa Fe being a popular choice. Hyundai points out that choosing the 7-seat MPV means “there is room for seven survivors inside, and you wont have to worry about getting zombie all over your seats, they’re easy to wipe clean.” And, in reality, the Santa Fe is perfect for families with young children, who can make quite the mess in the back seats.
Once you have picked your Hyundai model, the fun begins (I use fun in the loosest sense).
The game has nearly 300 zombie-fighting features that can be added to your car to protect you, with extras including a Horde Plow, Razor Wire and a Wrought Iron Cage, which all sound delightful, I think you'll agree – perfect for the mission at hand. The armour options include titanium or aluminium car armour as well as the choice to cover your vehicle in barbed wire.
Once you have built your survival machine, the game will rate your car on how likely it is to help you survive, as well as allowing you to share your car via Facebook and Twitter.
The game – with a tagline of ‘Choose wisely. And move fast. Your survival depends on it’ – is already proving to be a success, with 42,072 zombie survival machines created so far. Hyundai has also announced that they will actually build one of the zombie survival machines for New York Comic-Con, which takes place in October 2013, and showcase it at the event. We definitely think this will be the talking point of the convention!
