The annual Emirates Airline Glasgow 7s tournament kicks-off over the May Day holiday weekend- 4th and 5th May, with contenders coming from the super powers of sevens around the globe in a bid for victory.
Arnold Clark Car & Van Rental is delighted to announce its involvement as the ‘Official Vehicle Supplier’ for the tournament, which is part of the HSBC Sevens World Series. With the extensive fleet of vehicles at the stadium on the day Arnold Clark will ease any logistical stresses for the organisers to ensure that spectators get a day of hassle-free rugby!
Rugby Sevens is a fast paced, high intensity contact sport with the potential for high points scoring, all of which is bound to result in roars from the crowd and a huge amount of drama, both on the pitch and off. Aptly, the tournament at Scotstoun Stadium has themed the weekend’s festivities and this year it’s movie, which will be in keeping with the expected drama filled game-play over the weekend.
Edinburgh Rugby and Scotland squad scrum-half, Sean Kennedy said:
“Rugby sevens is fast and action-packed so it is a great introduction to the sport for those who maybe haven’t had the chance to see it before. The crowds really responded to the players last year and I am sure this year will be the same. And who knows there may well be some stars of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games on show.”
This is the second year that Glasgow will have hosted the Emirates Airline 7s tournament, after a successful debut at Scotstoun the organisers and players alike were very keen to come back to Glasgow and relive the exceptional atmosphere at Glasgow. Scotland 7s captain, Colin Gregor, said:
“We can’t wait to get back to Glasgow to play in front of a massive, noisy crowd and experience that buzz at Scotstoun again.”
Sixteen international rugby teams will descend on Scotstoun for two days of intensive rugby playing come May-day bank holiday, many say it will get the city ready for the imminent 2014 Commonwealth Games where the rugby 7s tournament will play a huge role in the event itinerary.
In 2014, football stadium, Ibrox, will welcome sporting rival, rugby, for the course of the 7s tournament where over 42 games will be played over the course of two days. Arnold Clark Car & Van Rental is delighted to have the opportunity to help with the preliminary stages of gearing up to welcome the 2014 Commonwealth Games to the city.
