The Nepal Schools Trust is a Scottish charity working to help children and their schools in the Pragatinagar and Devchuli village development committee districts in Nepal.
Jim Campbell, a salesman at our Springburn Fiat dealership/ref/arneh/), became a trustee of the Nepal Schools Trust in 2013. He has already raised £250, which was given to Surya Kiran Primary School in Nepal, providing 25 students with scholarships.
Although Surya Kiran Primary is a government school, less than 50% of the required funding is provided by the government – leaving the school and the local community to raise the money required to pay for teachers and resources.
While families are charged a small fee for registration and for exams, the policy at the school has been to give as many children as possible access to education – so the money raised by Mr Campbell has gone towards helping children from some of the poorest families in Nepal.
Other projects Jim has seen first hand have included the establishment of a school for deaf children in Nepal, and the improvement of water filtration systems at 20 schools in the country.
Jim commented: “It’s stuff we take for granted here, but a big thing for the people of Nepal. Everything makes a difference.”
Jim has been heavily involved with this charity for around 3 years, and has raised money through various fundraising efforts, including climbing Ben Nevis and other outdoor pursuits. His next mission? Wingwalking.
Chris Dickinson, Chairman of the Nepal Schools Trust, said: “I would like, on behalf of the community we work with in Nepal, to express since gratitude for the assistance provided by Arnold Clark in 2013.”
