Thinking about upgrading your set of wheels? Maybe you should hold fire for now, as there are still some great cars to be released this year. Check out our top picks of upcoming cars for 2014.
Volkswagen Scirocco
Unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show, some minor changes have been made to give the Scirocco a sleeker, more modern style. These include LED taillights, a reshaped bumper and the VW logo, which now doubles up as a boot opener. Internally, it’s clearly Golf-inspired in terms of the interior design details, such as the steering wheel and materials used. The dashboard also has additional gauges, which, combined with the turbo, add to the Scirocco’s overall sporty flair.
Mercedes S-Class Coupe
Set to hit the market in November this year, the S-Class has a lower roofline and Magic Body Control. If you’re unaware, Magic Body Control scans the road ahead and adjusts the suspension depending on conditions to make for a more pleasant motoring experience. As expected from Mercedes, the inside is predictably decked out in the most exquisite materials and luxury, innovative design. For example, the back seats are all individual, making for a more spacious journey. If you’re interested, crystal encrusted headlights are an optional extra!
Peugeot 508
Miles away from the 107, the 508 has a smooth, upmarket look. Perhaps the biggest difference from the previous version is the more horizontal bonnet, which will definitely command attention on the roads and adds to the dense exterior. Inside, upgrading has clearly focussed on de-cluttering with many buttons and functions being replaced by a modern, 7-inch touch screen control. It’s also packed with a plethora of cool features such as quad-zone air conditioning, keyless entry and blind spot sensors. Sounds like a dream to drive!
Renault Twingo
With its cute and compact design, the Twingo looks set to become as iconic as the MINI and Fiat 500 as the demand for smaller, retro-inspired vehicles continues to grow. The Twingo is fairly revolutionary due to the fact it is a rear-wheel drive– usually found on cars such as the Porche Carrera. This has several advantages including better acceleration and fantastic steering, making it perfect for weaving around the city and urban locations. In addition to this, they look set to emit less than 100g/km of CO2 so they will be inexpensive to run.
Nissan Pulsar
The Pulsar is Nissan’s first hatchback since the Almera ceased production in 2006 and it is certainly a bold choice with its boxy, curvaceous exterior. There’s no denying that the family hatchback market is fiercely competitive with veteran contenders such as the Vauxhall Astra and the Ford Focus. However, the Pulsar is capable of taking the market by storm thanks to its strong tech game. It comes complete with the NissanConnect system, which allows you to access a wide variety of apps via your smartphone device. Available in Autumn, we predict Nissan’s newest edition will be a popular choice.
