The announcement that Spotify now integrates with new Ford cars marks a new era for the app, which has seen rapid growth since it was founded in Sweden back in 2006. It's a popular app with drivers - we even featured it in our [Top 6 apps that will change your driving experience] (http://www.arnoldclark.com/newsroom/022-6-iphone-apps-that-will-change-your-driving-experience) feature last week. For those that don't already know about the service - Spotify is a music streaming service that provides on demand access to millions of songs. As opposed to paying for and downloading individual tracks and albums, once you have access to the service, you can play millions of songs at the touch of a button. There are two versions, one is a free version that plays intermittent adverts, and a paid version, without adverts. Ford’s Sync AppLink technology will enable drivers to control their Spotify accounts with voice control - starting out with the company's EcoSport 4x4 vehicle, which Ford will start selling in Europe later this year. ```info ## How to get Spotify in your car * Available on [select Ford vehicles](http://www.arnoldclark.com/used-cars/ford/options/min_price/0/max_price/150000/keywords/sync/per_page/25/orderby/price_up/), SYNC AppLink uses voice-activated technology to build a hands-free bridge between you and your smartphone applications. * This coming update of SYNC AppLink will enable you to control Spotify songs and playlists using voice commands including: “shuffle”, “repeat”, “star/unstar track”, “choose playlist”, “play music”, “recently played”, and “now playing”. * Ford SYNC AppLink is already available in over one million vehicles in the USA, and on which Spotify will roll out in the coming weeks. In Europe it will be featured in selected Ford vehicles by the end of this year. ``` In a time where in-car apps are [rapidly developing and becoming more sophisticated](http://www.arnoldclark.com/newsroom/052-the-iphone-app-that-makes-your-car-smart-it-costs-70-and-is-compatible-with-every-car-since-1996), Spotify recently updated its [iOS app](https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/spotify/id324684580?mt=8&ign-mpt=uo%3D4&affId=1736887) with support for [Ford SYNC AppLink] (http://www.ford.com/technology/sync/features/sync-app-link/). A Spotify premium account is required to connect the app to your car - and with simple voice commands the driver has hands free access to all music, playlists and Spotify radio stations. For instance - the driver can say **play starred** to access songs which you've tagged in a starred playlist... or when your friend sends you a playlist, just say **yes** to play it the second it's received.
