ŠKODA’s ‘brolly good show’

Czech car manufacturer ŠKODA opted for a canine theme as they linked up with the RSPCA for their April Fools’ Day prank.

Announced as the latest addition to the brand’s ‘simply clever’ range, the new dog umbrella was announced.

Neatly integrated into the ŠKODA Superb’s doorframe, the car manufacturer boasted about the umbrella’s ‘pawfect design’, pitching it as the new ‘mutts-have accessory’.

Citroën inspires world’s first retractable stadium sunroof on Emirates stadium

Citroën teamed up with Arsenal Football Club to announce the world’s first retractable stadium sunroof, inspired by the Citroën C1 Airscape.

The roof was said to benefit both players and fans alike, as players would supposedly save between four and six goals a season as a result of reduced ‘sun-in-the-eyes’, where fans would be given the opportunity to decide whether or not the roof should be open or closed ahead of each game.

Honda’s emoji registration plates

Responding to demand from trendy youngsters, Honda announced its plans to introduce emoji registration plates for UK car buyers.

The emoji art included the Hinomaru ‘circle of the sun’ Japanese flag, to symbolise the manufacturer’s roots.

Vauxhall ADAM C – world’s first wind-up car

Vauxhall announced the world’s first full-size production kinetic car.

Able to wind up in just 15 minutes, the ADAM C was said to work just like children’s clockwork toys (the ‘C’ standing for ‘clockwork’, of course).

As there was now no need for a conventional engine, the new ADAM C boasted zero emissions and running costs.

Winding up is a great way to shed some pounds as well, with Vauxhall claiming that a 15-minute wind-up could burn 400 calories.

MG launches world’s first invisible car

MG left no doubt that its latest concept car was an April Fools’ Day joke, as the leaders of the project were named as ‘Professor C. Thrue’ and ‘Avril F’ouil’.

The British manufacturer admitted that at first they had some trouble with the cars, as people kept walking into them and many thought the cars ‘weren’t much to look at’.

However since then, the invisible car has proven a hit, largely as a result of traffic wardens not being able to see the car to put a ticket on!

MINI’s Hipster Hatch

Possibly our favourite from today, quirky car manufacturer MINI ‘whipped a fair-trade Peruvian cotton sheet’ off its latest model – the MINI Hipster Hatch.

Complete with upcycled alloy wheels, Instagram filtered windows and twin-deck cassette player as standard, the Hipster Hatch was described as the ‘perfect companion for a spot of vintage clothes shopping, or indeed the odd trip to the market for artisan kale’.

Taking inspiration from the ‘Fixie’ pedal bike, MINI did away with traditional forward gears, opting for just one forward gear with a maximum speed of 25mph.
