It’s very important to look after this amazing planet we live on.
We know it’s hard to get around without a car and we also know how important it is to minimise the damage we do to our environment.
The greener you go, the better – and these five cars are definitely on their way to becoming the best green cars on Earth.
And yes, there are more than the Prius.
BMW i8
Our first place is reserved for this rather astonishing supercar. The i8 features amazing technology with green energy (which means low tax!)
One of the most renowned sides of the i8 is without doubt is futuristic design and sleek features.
Make sure you switch to the ECO pro mode and run your i8 only on electric power to eliminate emissions.
The engine is a turbocharged 1.5-litre Mini Cooper engine, which helps the i8 accelerate from 0–62mph in 4.4 seconds. If that’s not impressive we don’t know what is!
Volkswagen Golf BlueMotion
You may ask what’s the difference between a regular Golf and this one. The answer is that this one is greener (even though its called Blue…)
We really like it because the fuel economy is nothing short of amazing at 88.3mpg, which means that for both private and corporate buyers there will be less (if any) tax!
Plus, let’s not forget the benefits for the environment. You are looking at a 1.6-litre turbodiesel engine, which gets you 0–62mph in 10.5 seconds. We just love this Golf.
SEAT Leon Ecomotive
We really like this hatchback – it’s reasonably priced but without really feeling like a budget car.
Also, it’s fuel consumption is extremely good at 74.3mpg without compromising on power and performance (the engine is a 1.6-litre TDI).
It’s great for both families and professionals as it features impressive technology such as dual-zone climate control, automatic stop-start technology and energy recovery.
Renault Clio Dynamique Nav
We think this model ticks every box, especially if you’re on a tight budget and don’t have many kids.
Kudos to the Renault engineers who have made the four-cylinder diesel engine efficient without compromising on performance (it’s really quiet too).
This model is lighter and with better aerodynamics than its predecessor and rumor has it that next year there will be an even greener version of the engine (to get emissions down to 83mpg). Can’t wait!
Vauxhall Ampera
A green entrance from Vauxhall in our list, the Ampera is built in the USA and is a rather big battery car.
A 1.4-litre petrol engine and a 148bhp electric battery power the car and it looks rather futuristic.
The Ampera accelerates really quickly without too much noise, which is always pleasant.
The best thing about the Ampera is that the CO2 emissions are down to 27g/km, which is great news for the environment.
