We’re proud to sponsor Scotland’s premier Shakespeare company, Bard in the Botanics.
For the past 15 years, the company has delighted audiences to outdoor performances of Shakespeare’s plays, offering the chance to enjoy both well-loved classics and catch ‘Lesser Spotted Shakespeare’ productions.
Every year, a selection of plays is chosen to fit the season’s theme.
This year’s theme is ‘Vaulting Ambition’ and will include three Shakespeare plays – two tragedies and one comedy.
2016 marks a special year, as it is both Shakespeare’s 400th anniversary and also the Bard in the Botanics’ 15th birthday. To celebrate, the company is trying out something new.
For the first time, the season will include a new strand called ‘Writing the Renaissance’. This strand will see the actors perform another play from Shakespeare’s era. The chosen play this year is Marlowe’s powerful tragedy, ‘Doctor Faustus’.
