So here’s a quick look at the newly revealed Skoda Rapid Spaceback, which is a shortened version of the existing Rapid hatchback design, and has roughly the same dimensions and proportions of the popular Audi A3.
Skoda hopes that this new midsize car will appeal to the younger car buyer and ‘trendy’ families, as the new model has a sportier look and feel than that of the existing hatchback Rapid model.
The new Skoda Rapid Spaceback features:
135 litre boot capacity
Petrol engine version with up to 121bhp
1.6 Diesel engine alternative
5 speed or 7 speed DSG transmission options
Diesel model has average C02 emissions of 99g/km
The Spaceback retains a lot of the spacious features of the current hatchback model, so buyers won’t lose rear legroom space in the new model even though the car is 180mm shorter than the previous Rapid model. The boot, although small, also has a dual level floor to boost flexibility.
The Spaceback has optional interior trim upgrades, as well as the option to upgrade exterior elements, including a ‘pro-longed’ rear window which extends the glassed roof area down the rear tailgate. Whatcar? reports suggest that this will give the illusion of tinted glass which runs the full length of the car.
The prices for the new Skoda Rapid Spaceback haven’t been announced yet, but the model will be revealed at the Frankfurt Motorshow this September and is due to appear in showrooms by the end of 2013.

Every motorist is familiar with the problem of potholes. However, one driver, from Jackson in Mississippi, decided to take matters into his own hands after getting fed up with the craters on his local roads.
Ron Chane, the self-acclaimed ‘Pothole Robin Hood’, stole asphalt from the city to fill in more than 100 potholes in his area. After Chane successfully repaired each pothole, he spray-painted the words ‘citizen fixed’ next to it to proudly mark his achievements.
Image may be NSFW. Clik here to view.
Fellow city dwellers were thrilled when they learnt about his efforts, with many saluting him for taking matters into his own hands. The local authorities, however, did not look upon his actions with such enthusiasm. Chokwe Lumbaba, the Mayor of Jackson, said:
“We do not accept any use of the city's resources without going through the proper legal channels.”
Ron Chane is proud of his repairs. He told ABC news: “It’s sort of like Robin Hood. Once we saw that people were appreciating what we did we went out and made a goal of fixing 100 potholes. We’ve actually filled 101 potholes, so our mission has been completed.”
According to the local people of Jackson, the roads are so bad that driving on them is like being on a ride at an amusement park. In addition to the pothole issue, the roads also have much larger ‘sinkholes’, which have seen people and cars fall into them in the past.

Chane hopes that, as a result of his repairs, the local council will respond to the fact that the Jackson citizens are unhappy with the current state of the local roads. Chane said: “We’re sending a message that as citizens you have to sometimes take matters into your own hands, in a creative and constructive way.”
Unfortunately, potholes are a problem that most of us face. Make sure your tyres are safe and legal by following our tyre advice.
According to the Oxford English Dictionary, Road Rage is 'sudden violent anger provoked in a motorist by the actions of another driver' – and, according to a recent survey, it's more widespread than previously thought. The survey, carried out by YouGov reveals that being cut up by another motorist was the leading cause of road rage, followed closely by the failure of other drivers to indicate.
More key statistics include:
32% are subject to road rage more than once every week
…and of those, 21% have had full-blown arguments with another motorist
36% of those who experience road rage drive more aggressively as a result
9% said they had been threatened with physical violence in a road rage incident
8% had followed another driver who had been rude or aggressive towards them
Why does Road Rage happen?
Transport psychologist Dr Peter Marsh had some interesting explanations to give as to why people become defensive and can become violent on the road. He revealed that road rage is caused as the car is "…not only a means of transport, but it's also a very special kind of territory."
"An extension of our homes, our living room on wheels if you like. So when we feel that is threatened… we react with often uncharacteristic aggression."
The main causes of road rage were as follows.
67% - Being cut up by other drivers
65% - Other road users not indicating
61% - General rudeness
43% - Driving too slowly
30% - Driving too fast
The survey of 3,120 Admiral insurance customers was carried out by YouGov (an international internet-based market research firm).
Admiral spokesman James Carnduff said: "It's bad enough letting yourself be annoyed by other road users but following them, or even worse reverting to violence, is ridiculous.", Meanwhile, Kevin Clinton, Head of Road Safety at the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents added,,”Safe driving requires concentration, observation and anticipation as well as a responsible attitude to other road users.”
The Government has revealed that driverless cars will be tested on UK public roads for the first time, as part of a £28 billion road investment strategy – living up to recent predictions about the future of driving.
Oxford University researchers have already been working with Nissan to develop the technology that will be involved in the testing. Trials on private roads using a Nissan Leaf prototype have been underway for some time, but this will be the first time the cars have been driven on public roads.
Researchers will initially test the cars on quiet rural roads. Although the cars can drive themselves, a back up driver will be present as a safety precaution.
The Nissan Leaf is currently capable of running on a predetermined familiar route; however, the driver will still be able to control the vehicle by tapping the brakes.
America has already seen extensive testing of driverless cars on their roads – Google’s driverless prototypes have covered more than 300,000 miles on public roads.
The Transport Secretary, Patrick Mcloughlin, told the Telegraph, “Our major roads are vital to the prosperity of our nation, connecting people to jobs and businesses to markets. They carry a third of all traffic and two thirds of all freight traffic but in recent decades we have failed to invest properly in them.”
“That underinvestment has seen us fall behind many of our economic competitors. Since 1990, France has built more motorway miles than exist on our entire network, while Canada, Japan and Australia all spend four times more on their roads than we do.”
As well as investing in driverless vehicles, the Government has also pledged to pump a £500 million investment into electric vehicles, indicating that we could be seeing many more ‘green’ cars on UK roads in the future, despite predictions of the beginning of the end of electric vehicles.
The Goodwood Festival of Speed opened its gates on Thursday 11th July to thousands of car enthusiasts, all eager to enjoy the manufacturer preview day, the Moving Motor Show (presented by RAC Cars.) Once the Festival was properly underway, from 12th – 14th July, car fans were treated to the annual Bonham’s car auction, the famous World Champions’ hillclimb, a paddock full of luxury cars to feast their eyes on and much more.
New car debuts
In terms of new cars making their first appearance at Goodwood, there was a range of exciting models on display. The new Rolls Royce Wraith enjoyed a successful debut, while the impressive 887 hp plug-in hybrid super sports car from Porsche, the 918 Spyder, made its first public appearance. Another hybrid supercar making waves was the P1 from McLaren, who showcased an unprecedented collection of models at the event.
The annual Bonham’s sale – auctioning off rare and valuable classic cars – this year achieved a record-breaking sale of £36 million in total, taking over £19 million in the sale of Juan Manuel Fangio’s Formula 1 Mercedes-Benz W196. This makes Fangio’s car the most valuable ever sold at auction.
World Rally Championship drivers set out to get the fastest time on the annual hillclimb – a 1.16 mile course through scenic forest tracks. An electric car, the Lola-Drayson EV racer, came third in the race, which was won by Justin Law in the Jaguar XJR8. A time of 45.95 seconds saw him grasp his fifth Festival of Speed victory.
The Goodwood Action Sports Area (GAS) saw two-wheeled vehicles and their drivers perform gravity-defying stunts while car buyers and fans closer to the ground enjoyed music and picnics in Goodwood Park. The festival closed with an awards ceremony, with prizes and medals handed out by Lord March.
On 9 July 2013, a new child seat safety regulation came into force. Child seats approved under the old regulation will still be legal for use.
“The current child car seat regulation has been in place since the early 80s,” said Hamish McPhillips, Child Safety Centre – Business Development Manager, TRL, “but since this time the cars we drive have changed radically. We also have a better understanding of what actually happens during an accident. The new regulation takes this into account and is designed to make child car seats safer, as well as easier to buy, fit and use.”
There are now some important additional things to consider when buying a new child car safety seat. Most importantly, all new child car seats with the regulation 129 will now feature a new sizing system. Called i-Size, it grades seats based on a child’s height and weight, and is much more accurate than the previous system. All new vehicles will have ‘i-Size-ready’ seating positions. This means that any i-Size child seat will fit into any i-Size position in a car, regardless of make or design. A vehicle fitting list (showing which vehicles a child seat will fit) will no longer be required. For seats being used in pre-July 2013 vehicles, a vehicle fitting list will still be required.
“Another significant change is that all new child car seats with regulation 129 must now be tested to ensure that a child remains secure in their seat in the event of a side impact,” said Hamish McPhillips.
“Side impact collisions account for around 25% of road accidents in Europe. Despite this, the current regulation takes no account of side impact protection.
"All regulation 129 child car seats will also be limited to total combined weight of 33kg, to include the seat and occupant, and all regulation 129 child car seats designed for children younger than 15 months must now be rear facing.”
Known as Regulation 129 (Reg. 129), the new regulation will eventually replace the current regulation (Reg. 44), which is to be slowly phased out. The new regulation will initially only be applicable to ISOFIX child restraints with an internal harness. However, it will eventually apply to all child safety seats.
To check whether a car or child seat conforms to the new regulation, look out for the new i-Size label.

With the summer school holiday period beginning shortly in England, this is peak season for travel in the UK. Traffic specialist Trafficmaster predicts that next weekend will be the busiest of the year so far, with the majority of English schools breaking up for summer this coming Friday.
Daily commuter traffic is set to decrease while daytime travel will increase, most likely between the hours of 10am and 4pm, and coastal routes, cross-channel ports and the UK’s major airports will become busier.
And with increased traffic comes related problems. Research released today by the AA found that there could be an increased risk of breakdowns as people head off on their summer holdidays, as many car checks are being neglected ahead of long drives.
Increased breakdowns
The AA has also released stats revealing that overheating-related call-outs have jumped more than 50% since last summer.
One of the most common issues reported was with coolants and cooling fans, perhaps due to the bearings wearing down on older models: this can potentially cause the fan to burst into the engine and cause irreparable damage to the car.
Gender difference
Therefore, it is crucial to check your car is ready for whatever summer journeys you are making. Recent research found that there was a significant disparity between what male and females check before setting off on a journey, with men most likely to remember to check car components:
Fill up with fuel (90% men remember and 90% women)
Windscreen wash (81% and 75%)
Tyre pressures (82% and 73%)
Oil levels (76% and 60%)
Tyre condition (65% and 52%)
Lights (50% and 38%)
Coolant (52% ad 27%)
Increase tyre pressures (for heavy load) (48% and 33%)
Adjust headlight aim (19% and 11%)
Cooling fan (16% and 11%)
Making the necessary checks prior to setting off can prevent spoiling the beginning of your trip away: as Tony Rich from the AA points out, “It’s much better to discover a car problem at home, rather than in the outside lane of a motorway.”
Congestion hotspots
Research has also highlighted which areas of the country will be most congested. According to Trafficmaster, these areas will be:
A303 From M3 through Hampshire, Wiltshire and Somerset
M5 Almondsbury (M4) to Exeter (J31)
M3/M27/A31 Winchester (J9) to Dorset coast
M6 Between Junction 11A (M6 Toll), through Staffordshire and Cheshire into Lancashire
M25 Western Sector Between M1 interchange (Junction 21) and M3 interchange (Junction 12)
Will it improve?
And it doesn't look like the busy roads will subside with the end of summer. It was recently reported by the Daily Telegraph that, according to government predictions, delays on our roads are set to double by 2040. These predictions are based on a growing population (more people being of driving age), coupled with increased prosperity powered by economic growth.
Department for Transport projections indicate that the number of cars on Britain’s roads will increase from 28 million in 2010 to 38 million by 2040.

The new S 63 AMG is a powerful luxury saloon, priding itself on being dynamic, lightweight and efficient. Mercedes-Benz claim the new car meets “the highest standards in terms of high-class appeal, quality and perfection.”
Ola Källenius, CEO of Mercedes-AMG GmbH, said: “Following the successful launch of the A 45 AMG and the CLA 45 AMG, the new S 63 AMG highlights our expertise in the automotive high-end segment.”
Full Mercedes S 63 AMG price and spec information can be found on their website - prices start from £113,765.00 OTR. But let's review some of the impressive features of the new saloon car:
Lighter and more efficient
Efficient drive systems combined with the lighter structure have apparently led to improved fuel efficiency – the combined fuel consumption of the S 63 AMG is 10.1 to 10.3 litres per 100km (this is around 30 MPG). CO2 emissions are 237 to 242 g/km – the 8-cylinder model already meets the requirements of the EU6 emissions standard, which is due to come into force in 2015.
The S 63 AMG is up to 100kg lighter than its predecessor, thanks to various innovative features. For example, a lithium-ion battery replaces the conventional starter battery, saving 20kg. Insensitive to cold temperatures, the lithium-ion battery has a capacity of 78 Ah. The S63 AMG is the first volume-produced vehicle with this type of battery concept.
Other features to reduce the weight of the car include:
AMG forged light alloy wheels
Aluminium body
Spare wheel recess made of carbon fibre
A weight-optimised AMG high-performance composite brake system also comes as an option in the S63 AMG – giving extremely short stopping distances and spontaneous deceleration for enhanced driving dynamics and ride comfort.
With the increased efficiency and reduced weight, this new model can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in under 4.4 seconds, and can reach a top speed of 250 km/h.

There are also two suspension variants– the AIRMATIC and the MAGIC BODY CONTROL, both of which call on various pieces of in-car technology to adapt the car to road conditions for the smoothest possible ride.
The car also features an AMG sports exhaust system with exhaust flaps, allowing drivers to experience a different engine sound based on the transmission mode. Select Comfort mode to enjoy an understated sound; in Sport and Manual modes, the flaps will open earlier to create a “fuller, emotional, hallmark AMG engine sound” according to Mercedes-AMG. All variants are also fitted with ESP Curve Dynamic Assist to give perfect corner handling.

Emission-free, hydrogen-powered vehicles will soon be arriving in London as part of a new Government project aiming to increase the number of ‘clean fuel’ cars on the road.
The project – known as the London Hydrogen Network Expansion (LHNE) – will be the first hydrogen transport network in the UK and aims to put hydrogen-fuelled vehicles into daily business use.
Five Hyundai ix35 Fuel Cell models will be initially produced, which will be the first assembly line-produced, fuel cell cars in the world.
The philosophy behind Hyundai’s new ix35 fuel cell cars is to create a car that offers the same practicality, safety levels and driving experience as a regular ix35, but with zero exhaust emissions.
What is a fuel cell vehicle?
This is a type of vehicle that has its own fuel cell installed, which cleverly uses hydrogen and water to produce electricity to power its on-board electric motors. Cars with fuel cells are extremely environmentally-friendly as they produce zero carbon emissions – the only emission they produce is water.
The five Hyundai ix35 fuel cell cars are the first of 1,000 cars that Hyundai has said it will produce between now and 2015. The majority of these cars will be available throughout Europe, where the European commission has already established a number of schemes promoting the use of hydrogen vehicles.
Tony Whitehorn, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor UK, said: “Hydrogen delivers considerable environmental benefits and we are looking forward to working closely with the other partners to drive forward its widespread introduction.”

Fiat has launched a new app called ‘You Wear’ to as part of a marketing strategy to promote the huge range of custom specifications which is available with the Fiat 500.
The app works by scanning 25 of your most recent Facebook photos, then matches you to the Fiat 500 they believe would suit you most. It also provides a brief personality analysis based on your colour choices.
Since Fiat launched the Fiat 500 Spring/Summer collection, the brand has racked up over half a million custom spec combinations – the app aims to increase customers’ awareness of the options available.
To help develop the app, Fiat employed the skills of leading applied colour psychologist - Karen Haller. She looks at why certain personalities are attracted to particular colours and what personality traits this could reveal.
Karen Haller commented: 'A fun Facebook App is a great way to find out what your favourite colour says about your personality and maybe find out something about yourself you may not have known. When you are spoilt for colour choice, as with clothes or a car with so many options like the Fiat 500, this App helps you find out what colour best matches your personality'.
Elena Bernardelli, marketing director, Fiat Group Automobiles UK, added: 'Along with the many thousand different option combinations that can be applied to a Fiat 500 is the huge choice of vibrant colours. The shade of our customers' 500s has always been important to them as illustrated when we launched Fiat 500 Colour Therapy last year. It is therefore highly appropriate - and great fun too - that the Fiat 500 is launching this excellent App'.
This app forms part of a larger marketing strategy from Fiat to promote the 500. They recently launched a microsite which lets you customise the iconic Italian car to your heart’s delight.
Kia Motors has released their plans for the green initiatives that will be implemented in 2013. Kia’s environmentally-conscious plan encompasses lowering fuel consumption and emissions, reducing waste and recycling obsolete vehicles. This is all part of Kia’s “commitment to put the environment at the forefront of business operations.”
The manufacturer’s attitude is not a new one – from 2002, Kia has been developing safe alternatives to the hazardous materials and chemicals used in car manufacturing, and since 2003 suppliers have been encouraged to set up environmental strategies. Waste management will allow Kia to continue and improve upon the 23% reduction in waste they have achieved in the last 10 years.
In a press release, the company states that, last year, Kia's total CO2 output fell by the equivalent of the intake of 28 million mature pine trees. They also claim there has been a 123kg reduction in their CO2 output per car since 2008. As well as the CO2 output reduction, one of Kia's Korean plants has already been granted ISO 50001 certification in recognition of its energy management efforts, and two other Korean factories will reach the same standard in 2013.
Kia will be actively encouraging its customers and suppliers to make green decisions. They will put pressure on suppliers to adopt leaner production and manufacturing methods and consciously think about the environment when making business decisions - a commendable move from the manufacturer.
In terms of customer benefits, efficient transport methods for distribution of vehicles and parts will be promoted, in a bid to provide better service. Production and distribution lines are to be monitored to optimise the number of shipments to domestic factories and to the retailer - in turn, costs for the customer will be reduced.
Best Global Green Brands
Interbrand named Kia Motors 37th in the 50 Best Global Green Brands 2013, a ranking based on sustainability, environmental performance and Kia’s focus on eco-management.
Jez Frampton, Global CEO of Interbrand, said: “In our view, the best green brands are those that are not only vital, relevant, powerful and pioneering, but also profitable, ethical and ecologically responsible. We applaud Kia Motors’ efforts aimed at sustainability in all facets of its global operations that have enabled the company to be named as one of our Best Global Green Brands 2013.”

Described as a “new style benchmark in compact towing”, the MINI Cowley is a little caravan that houses two comfortable sleeping berths, a gas stove, a fridge, TV/DVD/audio equipment and a sink.
Named after the historic MINI manufacturing plant in Oxford, the Cowley is full of typical MINI design elements. From its curvy shape to its sliding windows (standard in all MINIs til 1969), the vehicle is MINI through and through.

Only 12 inches wider than a MINI Clubman, the MINI Cowley weighs just 300kg and offers superb maneuverability, so you can tow your home-from-home around the country without losing any driving enjoyment.

The MINI Countryman ALL4 Camp

Found yourself somewhere remote… but you don’t want to leave? The MINI Countryman ALL4 Camp allows you to get out of your car and head upstairs, thanks to a roof-top tent. The tent is kept in a storage box and is easily assembled to provide sleeping space for two. And you can even carry bikes on the back of the car – so it’s perfect for an adventurous getaway.

Although the tent addition is probably best suited to a MINI Countryman– it does have a clever all-wheel drive system that can take you over any terrain – the tent could be fitted on to other MINI models. But what we like about the ALL4 Camp pictured here is that the tent box has been painted Absolute Black metallic with white stripes – matching the car below.
It’s these little touches that make MINI such an enduring and well-loved automotive force. It’s making me want to buy a MINI, even if it won’t have a TV, a shower, a Jacuzzi or a tent on top. Sadly, these little beauties were shown to media in Croatia and there are no plans yet to bring them to any trade shows or events in the UK. But you can search our range of MINIs now, remembering the endless possibilities when it comes to MINIs and camping.
1. Naked ladies are painted and contort themselves into a Fiat 500
It's a little bit risqué, but we are ridiculously impressed by the skill that has gone into creating this video - and the effort that went into 'remodelling' the 500 Abarth Cabrio.
2. Smart takes their Fortwo off-road
Smart has had us laughing heartily in the office at their quirky ad. We love how it depicts the flaws of the car to make us see its strengths. Search Smart Fortwo stock.
3. Honda "Hands"
Honda does what Honda does best - created a beautiful video, which has now gone viral. Amazing.
Robin Barnard, who collected vintage petrol pumps, enamel signs, petrol globes and motorbikes for over 40 years, has put his collection under the hammer – and raised a cool quarter of a million pounds as a result.
The keen collector eventually had 800 items, including a 1951 BSA M20 used by the AA. The memorabilia – mainly obtained from people throwing things away – stayed in his Grade II-listed 1920s filling station in Colyford, near Seaton in Devon, until it got too extensive. He opened the Motoring Memories museum next door in 2003 to share his lovingly restored motoring products with the world.
We asked Robin what his favourite item was, but he said it was impossible to pick just one. “It’s quite difficult to talk about the collection now that it’s gone,” he said. “There were some very nice petrol pumps, some nice signs… it’s too hard to say.” A few items are left in ‘Sid’s Motor Works’ (one corner of the museum) but these will be auctioned off later this year or in spring.
The motoring memorabilia or “automobilia” was sold by Richard Edmonds Auctions Ltd last Saturday and fetched far more than was expected.
Robin’s first car was a Morris Minor convertible bought in 1971 – and he still has it. However, nowadays he drives an Audi Q7.

Earlier in the year, Mercedes-Benz asked fans on Facebook to design a ‘golf cart for the future’, offering the winner 2 tickets to golf’s prestigious Open, taking place this year at Muirfield.
The 2013 Open Championship at Muirfield in Scotland, which came to its climax last night, therefore saw the unveiling of the Mercedes-Benz Vision golf cart, a vehicle that reflects the innovative ideas of golfers with the character and technology of a Mercedes-Benz. Car enthusiasts as well as golf fans sent in their designs for a futuristic golf cart following the Facebook promotion and nearly 10,000 people have ‘liked’ the cart design already on Mercedes-Benz’s main Facebook page.
Image may be NSFW. Clik here to view. The design for the Vision Golf Cart includes some very hi-tech features.
With a very simple, functional shape, the Vision is a “sculpture on wheels” according to Vice President Design at Daimler AMG, Gorden Wagener. An electric vehicle that features touch screens, a docking station for iPhone/iPad, Bluetooth navigation and plenty of space for two golf bags, the Vision also has a mini refrigerator so a golfer can enjoy a cool beverage while traversing the course.
The golf cart is equipped with tools to communicate with other carts at the same golf course, as well as a golf course map and weather information. The winning design has been enhanced with a diamond grille to give a modern-day face to a Mercedes-Benz. However, some have noticed a striking similarity between the Vision and the Renault Twizy.
Mercedes-Benz has been the official car and official patron of the Open Championship since 2011, and this year supplied 60 Mercedes-Benz vehicles – mainly E-Class models– to shuttle golfers and guests to and from Muirfield Golf Club. The event this year was won by Phil Mickelson (this was the American’s 5th major title), with Henrik Stenson in 2nd place and a 3rd place tie between Ian Poulter, Adam Scott and Lee Westwood.
With the UK experiencing its hottest day since July 2006 and the heatwave set to continue, we look at 7 ways to stay cool in the summer heat.
1. Get your air-conditioning serviced
Air-conditioning is by far the most effective way to stay cool and maintain a steady temperature in your car but is your air-con working as efficiently as it should be?
Experts predict that 10% of the gas used to lower the air temperature leaks out of the system every year, so if your car is a few years old it may require a service for optimum efficiency.
2. Drink plenty of water
Make sure you drink plenty of water and that you take extra in case you get stuck in traffic. Our bodies are made up primarily of water, which we constantly need to replenish – especially true in warmer weather when we sweat more.
3. Buy a convertible
Despite our rather unpredictable weather, the UK is the second largest convertible market in Europe. At Arnold Clark we have a huge range of convertibles to choose from to keep you cool this summer.
4. Park your car in the shade
While it may seem obvious, parking your car in the shade will reduce the interior temperature of your car significantly and make it less likely to feel like an oven when you return.
5. Travel when the roads are quiet (if possible)
Travelling when the roads are busy will mean you’re more likely to be driving slower and get stuck in more traffic jams – something that prevents the steady flow of air if you have the windows or sunroof open.
6. Open the sunroof
Driving with the sunroof open, while technically not lowering the temperature, will make you feel cooler because the air is flowing rather than remaining stationary.
While not as obvious as buying a convertible to keep cool, a white car is proven to be significantly cooler than other colours: thanks to its reflective qualities, it will absorb less heat. What’s more, white cars tend to hold their value better when it comes time to trading it in, as they are always incredibly popular.
With Royal Baby news everywhere, it would be remiss of us not to to jump on that pale blue Bugaboo bandwagon. What is ISOFIX?
With the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge keen to ensure the safety of their child as it is bundled into its first child seat, they will want to pick a car that boasts ISOFIX anchor points. ISOFIX is the international standard for attachment points for child safety seats in passenger cars, and comes from “International Organisation for Standardisation” standard ISO 13216.
This standard outlines the anchoring system for Group 1 child safety seats and defines the attachment points to be present in cars, enabling compliant child safety seats to be quickly and safely secured. ISOFIX can be configured in various ways but essentially provides a reliable alternative to seatbelts when securing a childseat.
