French car manufacturer Renault has won its third award in as many years at the Next Green Car Awards, thanks to the Renault Captur taking first place in the Crossover category.

The victory builds on success in previous years: the Renault ZOE won the Supermini of the Year and Gold Award in 2012, while the Renault Scenic took home MPV of the Year in 2011.

Next Green Car announced today that the Renault Captur 1.5 dCi 90 Stop & Start was given the Crossover Award because: "Style-conscious, economical to run and affordable with excellent green credentials, the Captur is set to be the next big thing in the world of urban crossovers."

With CO2 emissions of 95 g/km and a Green Car Rating of 28, the Captur beat the Peugeot 2008 1.6 e-HDi Start-Stop, which was commended in this category. The Captur, only launched last month, has already proven to be extremely impressive in terms of style, versatility, efficiency and affordability.

The Next Green Car Awards provide an independent analysis of the most efficient cars available on the UK market. Award winners are selected from shortlists of 24 of the UK's greenest new cars of 2013/14, all selected for their environmental Green Car Rating, innovation, value, drive experience and design.

Dr Ben Lane, Managing Director of Next Green Car, said: “The 2013 winners reflect two key elements underlying current green car development: drive-train electrification and continuing improvements in fuel efficiency.”
