Since its launch in 2007, the Nissan Qashqai has sold over 2 million units globally – all built at Nissan’s UK factory in Sunderland. In June 2011, the 1 millionth Qashqai was built.
However, Thursday 7th November saw the unveiling of the new Nissan Qashqai during a spectacular 3D social media digital mapping show in East London. Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn unveiled the new model to the world's press during the exclusive event, signaling the start of the second generation of crossovers.
The next generation Nissan Qashqai will be on sale from 1st February 2014, with prices starting at £17,595. We thought we’d take a look at its most outstanding features…
New Design
Nissan defined the original crossover template in 2007, but the design of the new model Qashqai has taken the sector to a new level, with its bold design, highly advanced engineering, intelligent technology and attention to detail.
With a striking new look including powerful curves, clean lines and intricate details, the Qashqai boasts a raised bonnet line, muscular wheel arches and the option of 19” alloy wheels. The next generation model is also 20mm wider, 49mm longer and 15mm lower than its predecessor but, despite the height reduction, the front and rear headroom levels have actually increased by 10mm and the raised driving position remains.
New Technology
The new Qashqai hosts a range of new and innovative technology that creates a pretty exceptional package for Nissan drivers, such as the Nissan Safety Shield package, a collection of features designed to enhance the safety of occupants. Nissan calls it “a suite of advanced safety systems that uses a network of cameras and radar sensors to provide the driver with unprecedented levels of information about the areas surrounding the car.”
Safety Shield technologies include:
- Front Collision Avoidance
- Driver Attention Support
- Traffic Sign Recognition
- Lane Departure Warning
- Blind Spot Warning
- Moving Object Detection
- High Beam Assist
As well as the Safety Shield, other highlights of the new Qashqai include:
- Chassis Control
- Intelligent Parking Assist
- New NissanConnect
Engines and Transmissions
The new line-up for Qashqai consists of four engines (two petrol and two diesel) with the option of two- or four-wheel drive.
Petrol
- 1.2 DIG-T 115PS (85kW)
- 1.6 DIG-T 150PS (110kW) – joining the range in Autumn 2014
Diesel
- 1.5 dCi 110PS (81kW)
- 1.6 dCi 130PS (96kW)
The new Qashqai also offers exceptional efficiency, with CO2 emissions of just 99g/km – and, thanks to an “extensive mass reduction programme”, some models are up to 40kg lighter than before (despite having more equipment).
The new Nissan Qashqai hits Arnold Clark Nissan dealerships from 1st February 2014, but you’ll be able to book a test drive, find out more details or pre-order your new crossover well before then. Visit or contact your nearest dealership to find out more.
