Do you feel more pressure competing in your hometown of Glasgow?

Yes, definitely. More so the pressure I've put on myself but given the way my life has changed post London, people expect results from me now and I want to lead by example. Repaying the faith sponsors and supporters have shown.

What is your main goal?

I want to win major titles and break records, I don't think I have to sugar coat that now or be afraid to say it.

What motivates you?

The chase to be the best in your trade is what motivates me, as well as driving a nice BMW!!

What car are you driving right now?

318d M Sport – I love it!

What other sporting events are you excited to see over the summer?

I was glued to the World Cup - it's been the best tournament I can remember. It’s great to see teams with attacking formations and looking to create chances and score.

Are there any other sports you enjoy playing?

I love playing golf but it's often only possible in my time off in the summer. I've always been a huge football fan and I love basketball and American football.

What does a typical day look like when you’re training for a big competition?

At the moment I'm training 7 hours a day; high intensity pool sessions based on training at my target race splits next month.

This is supplemented with a weight training program to improve my strength, power and translate that to the pool as well as a physio & massage programme to keep my body in one piece!

Do you have any strange routines you do for good luck, or lucky piece of kit?

My only routine is to prepare the best way I can and to know I couldn't have worked any harder or committed any more. I don't have any lucky kit but I like to have a new pair of trainers for the big competitions!

What do you eat prior to a race? What is your ultimate indulgence?

Depends on the level of nerves and what my stomach can handle! Usually I start with a pretty standard breakfast; porridge with a few pieces of fruit, some fruit juice, poached eggs with spinach and ham/salmon and tomatoes – lovely!

How has your life changed after winning silver at the Olympics?

It's a real privilege to be associated with brands as powerful and influential as BMW, this is a result of good performances and my goal is to continue producing medal winning results and being a worthy ambassador for BMW.

Who’s the most inspirational person you’ve ever met?

I was extremely lucky in London to meet Pele at a function a few days after I finished competing. I managed to surprise my dad and my best mate and get them to the function as well and my dad as a former footballer – Pele is his hero. It was a great moment and experience I was grateful to have and to share with a few friends and family.

What is your dream car?

BMW M3!
