Are you looking for new year’s resolution ideas for 2015? A new year often calls for a fresh start, a new beginning. Statistics show that almost 80% of us fail to stick to a new years resolution, so instead of choosing something that's difficult to keep to, like joining the gym or eating more healthily, here are a few new year’s resolutions you might be more likely to achieve.

Get your body in shape…

Your car body that is – Don’t ignore bumps and scratches, these can be easily fixed before rust sets in and makes the problem far worse than it is. Bodywork maintenance can help protect your car from the elements, particularly important with the UK weather. Cleaning, polishing and waxing your paintwork can help to reduce fading and damage to your vehicle.

Keep your fluid levels up…

Refer to the owner’s manual for the fluid levels ideal for your vehicle; this will contain the information specific to your make and model and how often fluids must be checked. To check the fluid levels you will need to open the bonnet of your car, when your car has cooled down. The fluid levels you will need to check are:

  • Oil,
  • Transmission fuel for automatic cars,
  • Brake fluid,
  • Power steering fluid,
  • Coolant,
  • Windscreen washer fluid

Lose weight…

in your car. Get rid of any unnecessary items from your car that are causing excess weight, the heavier your vehicle is the more fuel it will use to get around. So, don’t use your car as a storage facility.

Keep clean…

Clean your car more frequently – inside and out. Make a good impression when picking up friends by not having a car full of rubbish, keep a bin in the front that you can empty frequently, vacuum the carpets when the weather permits and use an air freshener to keep your car smelling sweet.

Reduce spending…

on insurance. There are several ways you can reduce your insurance costs if you haven’t already tried. Some insurance companies will reduce your premiums if you take an accredited advanced driving course. Another way insurers may reduce your premiums is if you have a black box installed. A black box uses telematics to monitor the way a car is driven and where it is parked both factors that insurance companies will take in to account when deciding on costs.

Stay safe…

on the road. A few tips to drive more safely – reduce in car distractions don’t eat, drink or smoke while driving. Mobile phones should be switched off or out of reach to avoid the temptation of picking it up if it beeps. Keep children entertained with quiet toys or books so they don’t distract your attention from the road, if you need to see to them then pull over in a safe place. Stick to speed limits and finally make sure everyone in the car is wearing a seatbelt.

Don’t get down and deflated…

Ensure your tyres are inflated to the pressure level recommended by your vehicle manufacturer. You should check your tyres at least once a month or before you head out on a long journey, preferably when they are cold. While you’re checking your tyre pressure you should check your tyres for any other signs of wear and tear. Check the tread is okay and that they aren’t bald. Also check for any damage such as cuts, lumps or bulges. Are your tyres suitable for the time of year, would you be better with winter tyres?

Have you decided what your new year’s resolution is yet?
