The New York International Motor Show has now begun and there have already been some exciting new cars unveiled.
Subaru Impreza
Scoffing at the trend towards SUVs in New York this year, Subaru has lifted the lid on its new Impreza, complete with attractive styling, good economy and affordable pricing.
There has been some criticism that the new Impreza is underpowered, but with a two-litre, four-cylinder engine capable of 150 bhp, we reckon it’ll handle itself just fine.
The fifth-generation Subaru Impreza is expected to arrive in the UK at the end of the year.
Mazda Miata MX-5 RF
The MX-5 has just scooped both World Car of the Year and World Car Design of the Year. So excuse us while we get SUPER EXCITED about this hardtop version.
The roof can be opened or closed at up to 6 mph. With the roof closed, the Miata MX-5 RF looks like a stylish coupé; with it open, it just looks [insert expletive] amazing.
Powered by the same 2.0-litre in-line four-cylinder engine found in the MX-5, Mazda has kept everything we love about this roadster. The RF is slightly heavier, though, but will still zoom from 0–60 mph in around six seconds.
Mercedes-AMG C 63 Cabriolet
Mercedes-Benz has pulled out all the stops at the New York Auto Show this year. The first of its new models is the AMG C 63 Cabriolet.
With a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 petrol kicking out 469 bhp, the C63 Cabriolet is capable of reaching 62 mph from standstill in 4.2 seconds.
A C 63 S model was also unveiled, which shaves off another tenth of a second when going from 0¬–62 mph.
Mercedes-Benz GLC coupé
Set to be a rival to the Range Rover Evoque and BMW X4, the GLC Coupé is 80 mm longer and 40 mm wider than the regular GLC.
The car gets the same twin-turbo V6 engine seen in other AMGs with the ability to reach 0–62 mph in just under five seconds.
The GLC has a roomy boot (1,205 litres with seats folded) and a luxurious interior.
Audi R8 Spyder
Audi has made huge improvements to speed on the new, topless R8.
The 5.2-litre 532 bhp V10 can get from 0–62 mph in just 3.8 seconds, and with a top speed of 198 mph, the Spyder is pretty nifty on the road.
The R8 Spyder is due to go on sale this autumn.
Jaguar F Type SVR
The 575 hp, 515 lb-ft of torque and 200 mph top speed F Type is host to Jaguar’s biggest engine.
With updated suspension, revised steering and a bespoke aerodynamic diffuser among its repertoire, the F Type SVR is a truly sensational car.
The city of New York was so taken with the model that it closed the Park Avenue road tunnel to let it blast through uninterrupted.
The result was pretty special…
Toyota Prius Prime
The latest Toyota Prius is only just hitting UK showrooms, but Toyota has just lifted the veil on the plug-in hybrid model at New York.
The updated interior is super high-tech, with The Verge naming it a ‘budget Tesla’.
There is an 11.6-inch portrait display, with full-colour heads-up display available. From this, you’ll be able to access things like radio and climate controls, energy flow and your charging schedule.
With advanced tech and 202mpg capability, the new Prius will be the most efficient plug-in hybrid on the market when it arrives later in the year.
